Why the Best of Seville Isn’t In Your Guidebook

What comes to your mind when you think of Seville?

Before we even set foot in the city, to us Seville evoked orange blossoms, flamenco and amazing architecture. And while we did find some amazing, traditional flamenco in Seville, and the architecture of the Plaza de Espana wowed us, what we loved most about the city just can’t be found in any guidebook.

For us, the pleasures of Seville were in the little things; Sevillanos enjoying a book by their local fountain, sidewalk cafes on every other street corner, parks with leafy trees, the buzz of people going about their regular lives, and the amazing little places to eat and enjoy tapas and wine throughout the city.

Seville is truly a walker’s city. Seville’s major sights (the Plaza de Espana, the Seville Cathedral and the Alcázar) are all within walking distance of downtown, and many streets in the center are so narrow that cars can barely squeeze in between the buildings.

This is a city for living; not just for existing. Take a walk with us through some of our favorite memories of Seville.

  1. Great photos. I spent about 2 or 3 days in Seville a few days ago and of course your photos showed me sides I haven’t seen yet. So a reason to go back to Seville. 🙂 My favorite building was the one with the caption “Everyday Seville”

  2. Such a beautiful place and your photos are lovely. Seville and Spain is up there on my list for the next few years. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

  3. You’ve hit the nail on the head (has dao en el clavo). My routes around this city rarely include the big tourist sites, but my favorite bars and plazas and shops. I’m just as excited about Seville as I was when I moved here in 2007, and the city keeps surprising me. Shame we didn’t get to meet up when you were here last year!

  4. Getting lost among narrow side streets. Stopping to appreciate the lovely tile work. Checking out the pastry shops. And then there are the tourist sites to enjoy! We’d love to visit Seville…

  5. We’re staying in a small village near Alicante right now, and in comparison I think we’d much rather be in Seville, it’s stunning 🙂

    1. Dale, you guys need to get further south. We stayed in Torrevieja (just south of Alicante) for a week hanging out with friends before flying out of Valencia. It was nice enough however next time we’re in Spain we’ll definitely spend the majority of our time in the southern areas of Andalucia.

Before Torrevieja, we stayed in the white city of Nerja for a month and loved it. The white villages around there with their craggy cliffs and green mountains are stunning and even Seville had a lot more old world charm than we found around Alicante. If you guys get a chance I highly recommend heading in that direction.

  6. Plaza de Espana has been one of the best parts of Spain for me. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I would recommend everyone visit. Glad I found your list of recommendations before my trip and added a couple spots to my itinerary.
