Paradise can indeed be hard to find. We had a disappointing experience in Bali--very similar to your visit to Ko Samui. Crowded & waaaaay to touristy--and dirty. I've learned that if I can read about it somewhere, I'm probably too late.

Keep searching. . . it's out there somewhere, and it will be the one you find on your own. . . and then it will BE your own!

What a great post on what I think we all search for at some point in our travels - Paradise.

We are going to Thailand late this year to explore. Our only experience with Thailand is 4 days in Patong Beach which I hated. I was put off Thailand because I really didnt enjoy it there. This was 4 years ago.

However, over the last 2 years I have been reading blogs on Thailand and I have fallen in love with the place that I hated! I know there is much more to Thailand than Patong Beach and I am really excited to explore and find the REAL Thailand.

Like you, I will be searching for my perfect beach. But even if I am not successful, I hope I find the Thailand that so many others have found and fallen in love with!

I couldn't agree with you more about Ko Samui. We lived there for a month doing a housesit. Thankfully, we were far from the tourist area, but it was such a complete letdown overall. It's on my list of islands you can definitely not bother with.

To true! When tourist flock to a place they can destroy some of the beauty they came to see. All travelers are guilty of this I think. I hope you find your perfect beach, I'm also looking for mine. :)
