In reply to <a href="https://www.thebarefootnomad.com/mexico/a-day-trip-to-puerto-morelos-and-the-best-omelette-i-ever-ate/#comment-2979">Manuel</a>.

Manuel, Puerto Morelas was definitely a cute town. It seemed much quieter than Cancun or Playa del Carmen. That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your needs. We used to treasure our travels to quiet, out of the way places however ever since we had the kids we find we tend to enjoy slightly busier places. That's one of the trade offs of traveling with children. They get bored a lot quicker than we do! ;)

We only spent a few nights in Cancun and not in the hotel zone. We decided to get a cheaper place and spent our time there checking out Isla Mujeres and the city proper. We still like Playa more but probably because it's a little smaller and there's more places to go explore just out of town.

Tulum is an interesting place. We love it but really it's almost like two places. The town proper with it's busy road and great little eats and the beach which is a distance away and almost a town unto itself. Neither are complete without the other but I always feel I'm missing out if I'm at one place or the other. Lots to do in that area though and the beaches are some of my favorite on the Mayan Riviera.

Enjoy your month in Mexico. Give Playa a try as well, you might be surprised how much you enjoy what it has to offer as well!

Great post! I just came back from more than 2 weeks in Mexico and I absolutely love Puerto Morelos more than Cancun or Playa del Carmen. I am into mostly Asian travel and it is my first time to try Cancun - never thought I would love it there as well. Although I didn't see much of the town (I went very early and got back to Cancun around noon), I fell in love with that little fishing town.

I'm planning to go back there and spend at least 2 weeks, then a few days in Tulum and back to CAncun - for a whole month of planned stay in Mexico.

I noticed that you're a traveling family - isn't it difficult to bring kids around while doing that?

Thanks for the tip on where to have a great omelette in Puerto Morelos.

I Love Chorizo in eggs! Being Cuban it's an ingredient we use often as an accent flavor in many dishes. One of my favorite ways to use it is in a torte with chorizo and potatoes!

Hi Melanie, your seaweed/seagrass comment intrigued me. After a little online digging, there actually is a difference between seaweed and seagrass. To put it simply, like sea turtles, I'm not a big fan of seaweed but don't mind seagrass. ;)

The seagrass in Mexico is very much like real grass and isn't slimy at all. It also doesn't bunch or stick together when torn out of the sand. On the seabed, the seagrass out here also seems much shorter (around the length of your hand) and people walk and play on it all the time without even noticing they're doing it.

Probably the nicest thing about it is that it doesn't smell like seaweed does when it's out of the water drying on the beach. I'm not sure I would have been such a fan of Puerto Morelos if it had been seaweed however the fact it was only seagrass didn't bother me.

Sorry if that sounded like a botany lesson but your comment made me curious.

Glad you enjoyed the post Melanie and I hope a ray of sunshine finds you soon. :)
