Thanks for this great blog.. we followed your day more or less, great tips on golf cart and cheaper quieter beaches. We ended with a last swim at sunset on the north beach. This magical island deserves sleeping over!

In reply to <a href="https://www.thebarefootnomad.com/mexico/isla-mujeres/#comment-39812">Hollie</a>.

Hi Hollie, we had a slow start the day we went and got on the 11:30 ferry to go across. You can tour the majority of the island in a couple hours if you don't stop very long at all the spots. I believe we had the cart for 5 hours or so however we could have dropped it off earlier since we were in town anyway just having a late lunch and hanging by the beach.

The biggest danger about going too late is that there are only a set number of golf carts for rent in town. Before we went we read blogs saying that if you go after 10 don't bother since you won't be able to find one however we found one and it was pushing noon so it totally depends on the day you go and how busy it is. It's definitely a fun way to spend the day!

Hello,

I really enjoyed reading this. Good info! We are staying in Playa next month for our 3rd time, but this time we are bringing our 2.5 year old. I was thinking of planning a trip to Isla. I just needed to plan the timing for transportation reasons.

How long did it take you to stop a few places and drive around the island?

Thanks!

In reply to <a href="https://www.thebarefootnomad.com/mexico/isla-mujeres/#comment-16492">Manasa</a>.

Hey Manu, there are hundreds of golf carts all over the island. I'm pretty sure it's the primary means of travel there. All of them come with keys and most with locks as well. Every site has plenty of parking and the nice thing about the golf carts is they're so small they can park just about anywhere.

Renting a cart and spending the day doing the island circle is common practice and you'll keep running into the same people as you all follow the same route. It's all fairly safe just make sure you take your valuables with you as go since there's no locked storage on the carts.

We only had a day as well and saw everything that we wanted to and we got there pretty late in the morning and left fairly early that night.

Have a good time and make sure to pick up a few bottles of water in town before you head out. We were a little thirsty a few times that day and there weren't that many places to pick one up as we went.

Hi Charles,

Really helpful reading your experience. I have a question though. We can only spend a day on Isla Mujeres. When you rent the golf cart, can you park it anywhere? Say, if you want to visit the Garrafon park, is it safe to leave the cart and visit the park?

Thanks,
Manu
