Why We’re Looking At Luggage A Little Differently Now

We’re in a different travel stage than we were a decade ago.

Our youngest has just graduated high school, our son is in college, and we’re starting to look at travel a little differently again. We’re not packing diapers, car seats, tiny shoes, and snack cups anymore. We’re packing for full-sized people with full-sized clothes and very real opinions about what they want to bring.

So while we still travel as a family, it’s different now.

The first thing I noticed is that the set looks good.

It has a clean, modern hardshell design, and all three pieces match nicely. If you’re replacing a random collection of mismatched suitcases, this immediately feels more pulled together.

The second thing I noticed was how lightweight it felt.

Honestly, I love that. I’m so tired of luggage that feels like it already weighs half your airline weight limit before you even put a single pair of jeans inside. Lightweight luggage makes such a difference, especially if you’re packing for longer trips, sharing luggage between family members, or trying to avoid overweight bag fees.

The Colour Choices Are Actually Fun

One thing I really like about this Coolife set is that it comes in a lot of colour choices.

The set we received is Apricot Black, and I really like the look of it. It’s neutral enough that it still feels practical, but the contrast trim makes it much easier to spot on the luggage carousel than a plain black suitcase.

That matters more than people think. If you’ve ever stood at baggage claim watching 47 nearly identical black suitcases go by, you know exactly what I mean.

This Is Affordable Luggage, And That’s The Point

I think the most honest way to talk about this set is this:

The Coolife 3 piece set feels like affordable, functional luggage for value-conscious travelers.

That’s not a bad thing. In fact, that’s the whole appeal.

This is not the luggage angle I’d take if you’re shopping for ultra-premium suitcases you expect to drag through airports every month for the next decade. If you’re a very frequent flyer, a heavy business traveler, or someone who wants top-tier materials and long-term durability above all else, you may want to compare it with higher-end options.

But that’s not everyone.

A lot of people travel a few times a year. They want luggage that looks decent, rolls properly, has enough packing space, and doesn’t blow the travel budget before the trip even starts.

For those people, this set makes a lot more sense.

It’s affordable. It’s practical. It has the basic features most travelers actually use. And if you can get it during a good sale, the value proposition gets a lot more interesting.

A Quick Packing Test

We did a quick packing test at home to get a feel for the interior space.

The inside is straightforward, with one side that can be secured with straps and another side with a divider panel. That’s exactly what I’d expect in a hardshell suitcase at this price point, and it’s useful for keeping things from shifting around too much. Lots of room for packing cubes and everything else you need.

The 20 inch carry-on is best suited for short trips, weekend packing, or lighter travelers. The 24 inch case is probably the most versatile of the three for most people. The 28 inch suitcase gives you the most room, but of course, the larger the suitcase, the easier it is to overpack.

And with checked bag fees and weight limits, that’s something to keep in mind. A big suitcase can be wonderfully convenient, but it can also get heavy fast.

That’s another reason I appreciate that these suitcases feel lightweight before packing. If you’re trying to stay under an airline weight limit, starting with lighter luggage gives you a little more breathing room.

What We Like So Far

For the price, there’s quite a bit to like about this Coolife luggage set.

The biggest win is that you get three usable suitcase sizes in one matching set. That makes it flexible for different types of travel, whether you’re heading out for a weekend, taking a longer vacation, sending a college student off with extra stuff, or packing for a family road trip.

Second, hardshell luggage can scuff. That’s true at many price points, but it’s worth mentioning. If you check luggage often, expect marks and wear over time.

Third, this is value-focused luggage. That’s the point. I wouldn’t buy this expecting the same materials, feel, or long-term durability as a premium suitcase that costs several times more.

Fourth, always check airline size rules, especially for carry-on luggage. The 20 inch piece is intended as a carry-on size, but airline rules vary, and they can be especially strict on smaller planes, international routes, and budget carriers.

What I really wanted to know with the BLUETTI Elite 300 was this, could it handle the bigger things we’d actually care about during a power outage, an outdoor work day, a road trip, or a car-camping-style setup?

That’s the test we set up for this review.

In normal outdoor use, your solar charging speed will depend heavily on the conditions. A perfect sunny day with well-angled panels is very different from a cloudy afternoon with trees nearby.

That’s why our solar test was less about chasing a perfect lab number and more about seeing what happened in a real outdoor setup.

We wanted to know:

While setting up the folding Bluetti Sora 220W solar panels for the first time required us to check the documentation when figuring out their correct positioning, plugging in a single panel was as simple as connecting the positive and negative universal MC4 prongs to the panel and then plugging the other end into the DC input panel on the Bluetti Elite 300. It was that easy and it started working immediately.

When connecting both solar panels, we had to run a couple cable extenders however they were the same style connectors so it was plug and play easy.

Even not optimizing the angle and with sky hazy with clouds, with one solar panel plugged in we instantly hit 160W and then doubled that the moment we extended it to both of them. We were down past 70% after a battery of tests at home but before we knew it we were back above 90% just with free solar!
