What you may not realize is the Riviera Maya and Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula itself also contain dense jungles and some of the best cenotes you’ll find anywhere in the world.

What’s a cenote?

Since limestone bedrock can be found all across the Mayan Riviera, over the years many of these areas of porous rock have formed into underground rivers. These freshwater underground rivers usually form caverns of crystal clear water as the limestone filters and purifies the water naturally.

Eventually, many of these caverns have collapsed and have opened themselves up to the sky, ready to be explored. These limestone sinkholes are called cenotes and there are literally thousands of them found across this Mexico region, with new ones still being found today in the Riviera Maya.

What this means for you, is that no matter where you go in the Mayan Riviera, you’ll likely find one of these inviting cenotes to spend your day. Whether you’re there just to swim, jump off the surrounding cliffs or even there to go snorkelling and scuba diving in, cenotes offer a great way to explore the Riviera Maya’s hidden world away from the beach.

Coming from the Mayan word “dzonot” or “tsonot,” which essentially translates to “well” in English, cenotes (pronounced “say-no-tays”) also hold a historical value to the region. The ancient Mayans realized that these large wells could supply enough freshwater to sustain entire villages and even larger ancient cities like Chichen Itza relied on cenotes to survive.

Some of these pools were considered sacred and everything from gold to jade to gorgeous mother of pearl jewelry have been found over the years including the bones from ancient sacrifices the Mayans did to procure a bountiful season. While the sacred pools remain closed and have been preserved, the rest of the Riviera Maya’s cenotes are open for visitors.

Types of Cenotes in Riviera Maya

There are essentially four types of cenotes found in Riviera Maya. This includes open air cenotes, semi-open cenotes, cave or semi-closed cenotes and underground cenotes.

Open air cenotes tend to resemble small ponds or lakes with the vast majority of the water easily accessible. Though they can often have steep sides, they’re fairly common to find and offer ease of access vs the other cenote styles. These are best for families as everything is within site and access to the water is usually the easiest.

Semi-open cenotes are cenotes with rocky overhangs. Often a good portion of the cenote is considered open air with corners that are partially blocked from the sky. They tend to feature darker areas that are fun to explore with snorkeling gear. Generally they’re fine for families as well.

Cave cenotes are typically cenotes with a small hole leading to the sky. It is often darker while swimming here and you often need to take a ladder to get down to the water itself. Not recommended for smaller children, they probably feature some of the best high diving you’ll find if you’re an adventure seeker.

Underground cenotes are exactly as they sound. These flooded cenotes are closed off from above and can only be explored by scuba diving and usually only with a knowledgeable guide. Also only recommended for expert cavers.

Why visit a cenote in Riviera Maya?

While sun and sand make for a great vacation, sometimes it’s nice to check out something new. With cenotes found near most of the major areas in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, getting to one often only takes a short trip. Some are also adjacent to popular archive sites or make a great stop when visiting other areas of the peninsula.

So, if exploring crystal clear, freshwater pools in a naturally formed limestone setting sounds like a perfect day away from the salt and sand of the Mayan Riviera (it really is), read on as we take a look at the best cenotes in Riviera Maya.

Cenote Cristalino

Cenote Cristalino is one of the first cenotes our family ever explored in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. Interestingly, Cenote Cristalino is also one of the first cenote posts we ever wrote on this site back in 2010 so it still holds a special place in our hearts.

Just a stones throw away from Playa Del Carmen (10 km south of Playacar proper) and an easy taxi ride to get there, it’s not as popular as some of the bigger cenotes on this list however we’ve always enjoyed the times we’ve visited it. Almost across the road from Barcelo Maya Beach All Inclusive, it’s few open clear water pools complete with nibbling minnows make it an inviting cenote to visit.

It’s also less touristy than many of this list as the area is less developed. The last time we were there a few years ago, it also hadn’t been bought out by a bigger company so it still maintains a rustic charm. You can find a place to buy snacks and changing rooms exist on site. There’s a small daily fee to get in.

Cenote Azul

Cenote Azul is a nice open cenote that appeals to families and those looking for a relaxing day out. Its shallow areas are perfect for children, while deeper sections satisfy snorkelers and those wanting to swim a few laps. The surrounding rock formations offer spots to jump from for the more adventurous visitors.

Walking distance from Cenote Cristalino, it offers more services such as showers and restrooms. There is a small fee to use the services there however it’s only a 10 minute ride from Playa Del Carmen so makes for an easy getaway if you’re staying in the region.

Cenote Dos Ojos

One of the most famous cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, Cenote Dos Ojos, or “Two Eyes Cenote,” boasts two connected sinkholes resembling a pair of eyes. Its crystal-clear waters and extensive underwater cave system make it a paradise for snorkelers and especially divers as it features an fairly extensive labyrinth of flooded caves to explore. The light filtering through the openings also creates a magical atmosphere, perfect for underwater photography.

The day we went to Cenote Dos Ojos, we saw many more divers than swimmers. Since the water in this luminescent blue cenote can be quite deep, it’s definitely not geared towards younger families though ours were fine with the lifejackets we brought that day and the cave portion is quite cool to see.

Geared more towards divers that swimmers, there are changing rooms, bathrooms, lockers for rent and even a restaurant on site. Cenote Dos Ojos can be found approximately 22km (13 miles) north of Tulum on Carretera 307.

Gran Cenote

A short 10 min drive from Tulum proper up QROO 109, Gran Cenote is a semi-open cenote surrounded by lush vegetation. Its clear, turquoise waters are home to turtles and small fish, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling. Numerous wooden platforms and stairs provide easy access for swimming and soaking up the serene beauty of this natural pool.

While it’s much quieter than Doj Ojos, Gran Cenote is a bit more friendly towards families and is a quick trip from Tulum. There are open caves you can easily swim into and lots of the cenote bottoms have sand you can stand on. While you can’t stay right by the water, you can spread out above the cenote area. As the name implies, Gran Cenote itself is quite large.

One of the biggest draws to Gran Cenote in Maya Riviera are the turtles and the short distance to Tulum. There are showers, bathrooms, lockers and even hammocks you can use. Day fees at Gran Cenote are around the 200 peso range.

Cenote Zacil Ha

Just down the road from Gran Cenote, Cenote Zacil Ha is another cenote favorite for those staying Tulum. Cenote Zacil Ha features a very open air feeling and even includes a small zipline you can use to get into the long pool.

Cenote Zacil Ha makes a great (and cheap) refreshing stop when returning from the popular Coba archeological site. At under 100 pesos, it features bathrooms and changing rooms.

Cenote Aktun-Ha

Another cenote close to Tulum and just a few hundred meters from Cenote Zacil Ha, Cenote Aktun-Ha (“water cave”) is a very large open air cenote in Riviera Maya. It also nicknamed Cenote Carwash as the local taxi drivers used to use the water to wash their vehicles.

With plenty of turtles and fish in the cenote, it has a maximum depth of around 18m or 60ft so you’ll see the occasional diver down below as well. There are restrooms, changing rooms and platforms you can use to access the water. It also features a 10ft (3M) diving platform

Cenote Ik Kil

Located near the very cool and popular Chichén Itzá, Cenote Ik Kil is an open-air cenote with dramatic vine-covered cliffs and cascading waterfalls. The circular shape of this cenote and the hanging roots reaching down towards the water surface create a mystical vibe.

It’s a popular spot, so consider visiting early in the morning to avoid crowds or stay for a few days at one of the cabins on site. Cenote Ik Kil includes bathrooms, change rooms and even has a restaurant on site. Prices are in 100 Peso range for adults and 50 Peso for children.

Cenote Zací

While not in Riviera Maya itself, located in the heart of Valladolid, Cenote Zací is a semi-open cenote that offers a convenient break from city exploration. Its massive open cave features a small island with lush vegetation in the center, and its waters are home to rare eyeless black fish. The on-site restaurant provides a unique dining experience with views of the cenote.

Located between Cancun and Chichen Itza, Cenote Zaci is also a great stop if you’re exploring the ruins that day and want to cool off before driving the rest of the way back to Cancun. Though the waters in this cenote aren’t the clearest, swimming in the giant cavern of Cenote Zaci is an unforgettable experience. It has bathrooms, changing rooms and a restaurant on site. Prices are around 60 pesos for adults and 30 pesos for children.

 Cenote Escondido (Mayan Blue) and Cenote Cristal

Cenote Escondido, nicknamed Mayan Blue by the locals, and Cenote Cristal are both large, open-air cenotes close to Tulum. Both feature jungle settings as well as have cliff jumping (12ft or 4m) and a rope swing.

These 2 cenotes are both owned by the same company and are right next to each other. Both offer ample parking, toilets, showers and changing rooms. Each cenote costs 150 Pesos as an entry fee. If having to decide between one or the other, most people recommend Cenote Escondido over Cenote Cristal. With more area to explore, Cenote Escondido is bigger, and almost feels like you’re swimming in a river than a typical cenote.

Tips for Visiting Cenotes in Riviera Maya

• Bring Eco-Friendly Sunscreen: To protect the delicate ecosystem of the cenotes, use biodegradable sunscreen however note that many cenote owners strongly discourage any sunscreen at all to minimize the impact lotions have on the system.
• Wear Water Shoes: Many cenotes have rocky bottoms, so water shoes can help protect your feet.
• Bring Mask and Snorkel: While many sites offer snorkel rentals, the quality can be suspect and paying for each use can add up over time. Better to bring your own and, if space is tight in your bag, leave the flippers at home and just bring along your mask and snorkel.
• Respect the Environment: Keep the cenotes clean by not leaving any trash behind. Each cenote is a natural wonderland complete with a delicate ecosystem. Make sure to minimize your footprint when visiting.
• Check for Entrance Fees: Most cenotes charge an entrance fee, which is used for maintenance and preservation.
• Make sure you don’t get scammed: The most expensive cenotes charge up to 150 pesos for an adult but many charge only 50 or 60 per person.
• Leave valuables at home: Small theft around certain cenotes is a problem. Leave your valuables at the hotel or rent a locker on site if you have things you don’t want walking away.
• Extra costs for cameras and drones: A few companies have realized they can have an upcharge for people bringing in costly cameras and drones and have decided to charge extra for it. Depending on the cenote, the costs can equal the entrance fee. If you don’t need it, leave it behind.

When Should You Go to Dubai?

Here’s the short answer: November to March. Warm days, cool nights, and everything’s open.

Shoulder seasons like April or October? Great if you like heat and shorter lines. Summer? It’s doable, but prepare for a sauna experience. A lot of outdoor attractions shut down and you’ll live in air conditioning.

We’ve made our home base in Kelowna, BC, for over six years now. It’s amazing how time flies.

In that time, we’ve been fortunate enough to spend plenty of time exploring the sunny Okanagan Valley, with its deep, clear lakes, mountains, wineries, and abundant orchards. 

One of our favorite trips is to head south from Kelowna to Okanagan Falls. It’s a beautiful drive, passing through West Kelowna, Summerland, Peachland, and Penticton, along the shores of Okanagan Lake.

Okanagan Falls (also called OK Falls) itself is a smaller town, with a population of only around 2,500 residents. The town of Okanagan Falls is located on the southern tip of Skaha Lake.

The town of Okanagan Falls itself is… how do I say this? Well, the town itself could use a little bit of beautification. We still enjoy heading there, and the surrounding area is absolutely stunningly beautiful (especially the wineries and lake), but the town itself is beginning to look a bit tired. That said, we still adore Okanagan Falls, and love visiting every time.

Things to do in Okanagan Falls, BC

If you’re wondering what to do in Okanagan Falls, here are some of our favorite picks, from wineries to waterfalls.

What are the top attractions to visit in Okanagan Falls, Canada?

Because Okanagan Falls is a smaller town, there aren’t a lot of tourist attractions like amusement parks or water slides. That said, the lack of tourist traps is part of the charm in a town where the biggest attraction is an ice cream parlor called Tickleberries.

Tickleberries

Tickleberries ice cream shop is an absolute must stop in Okanagan Falls.

It’s a family owned business started back in 1990. There’s a lot that’s great here, but with 72 different kinds of ice cream in stock, we usually start with a delicious ice cream cone. If ice cream isn’t your thing, Tickleberry’s makes it’s own chocolates, fudge, candies and kettle corn and has an interesting collection of items for sale.

Christie Park

Christie Memorial Provincial Park has the longest beach park in OK Falls. It’s right in town, on 7th Avenue on the south shore of Skaha Lake.

There’s more to do here than hang out on the well maintained beach, with beach volleyball courts, wide grassy areas, and plenty of benches and picnic tables. Christie Park has washrooms and change areas.

If you’re here with your canine companion, there’s also a dog beach.

Okanagan Falls KVR Kettle Bridge

The OK Falls KVR (Kettle Valley Railway) Bridge is a short walk from the town of Okanagan Falls, and right next to Christie Park. You’ll find the bridge at the South end of Skaha Lake, just as Skaha Lake empties into the five km long channel that connects it to Vaseux Lake.

The bridge itself isn’t very long, but it connects to the Kettle Valley Railway Trail on the North end, which runs along the West shore of Skaha Lake. It’s a great place for a walk, and there’s a good chance you’ll see plenty of waterfowl and wildlife.

More excitingly, during OK Falls hot summer, you’ll see locals and tourists of all ages jumping off the bridge into the clear water below.

Okanagan Falls Wineries

There are 15 wineries around Okanagan Falls. Of these, the most well known are arguably Liquidity Winery, See Ya Later Ranch, and Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars.

Like the rest of the Okanagan Valley, OK Falls is well suited for wine production, with long, dry and sunny summer days, low risk of autumn frost, and rich soil.

The Wineries at OK Falls include: Black Market Wine Co, Blasted Church, Bonamici Cellars, Crescent Hill Winery, Echo Bay Vineyard, Skaha Vineyard, Liquidity, Meyer Family Vineyard, Nighthawk, Noble Ridge Vineyard, Pentage Winery, Play Estate Winery, See Ya Later Ranch, Stag’s Hollow and Wild Goose Vineyards.

What are the best outdoor activities in Okanagan Falls?

Okanagan Falls is all about the outdoors. The town is nestled at the southern tip of Skaha Lake, with mountains all around.

The warm climate is perfect for wineries, while the lake and mountains mean there are plenty of opportunities for watersports, hikes and outdoor activities too.

Okanagan Falls Waterfalls

If you’re wondering, ” Are there falls in Okanagan Falls?”, the answer is well… not really.

Unfortunately, the natural waterfalls the town is named after no longer exist. The town was named after small twin waterfalls at the end of Skaha Lake, where it emptied into the Okanagan River. In the 1950s, the falls were lost when a flood control dam was built to control the level of water flowing south into the Okanagan River.

Depending on the time of year, the dam on Green Lake Road, just north of Highway 97, can run fairly strong, creating a fast current and rapids.

Okanagan Falls Camping

The most popular Okanagan Falls campground is the provincial park, aptly named Okanagan Falls Provincial Park. You’ll also see signage for sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ, which is the name for Okanagan Falls in the local indigenous Sylix language. In fact, it’s now now officially named sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ Provincial Park.

sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ is pronounced s-wuh-wuneet-kw, means “little falls”.

The park is managed by the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB). Make camping reservations through Discover Camping with the BC government.

Indian Head and Peach Cliff

Indian Head’s ragged cliffs to the southwest of Okanagan Falls are some of the most unusual rock formations in the Okanagan with huge dark ancient volcanic rock as well as a bunch of hiking trails.

Peach Cliff is just east of Okanagan Falls, with Balancing Rock perched at the top. Mule deer and California bighorn sheep make this their home, so it’s great area for wildlife viewing.

Skaha Lake in British Columbia

Skaha Lake is one of the warmest lakes in Canada. It’s the perfect place to fish, swim, water ski, wake board, sail, paddleboard or just go for a swim.

Visit a Local Okanagan Orchard

With it’s warm summers, Okanagan Falls is home to many roadside fruit stands and u-pick farms. One of our favorite things to do in the Okanagan Valley is take a drive around the countryside, stopping at orchards and fruit stands to enjoy home grown fruits and veggies.

Climb Skaha Bluffs

There are plenty of routes to chose from, but climbing walls include Red Tail, Doctors Wall, Fortress, The Great White Wall and The Grand Canyon, and are mostly under 30 meters tall.

Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory

The Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) is located at Kaleden, British Columbia, Canada, about a 13 minute drive from the town of Okanagan Falls.

It’s an active observatory, known internationally for science and technology research and development into telescopes as well as satellite receivers and electronics. Comprising astrophysicists, astronomers, engineers and technologists, the observatory is well known around the world.

The observatory was closed in 2021 to both self-guided and guided tours because of the pandemic, however during normal times, it’s open for self guided tours Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, and special guided tours are available upon request.

Ski or Snowboard at Apex Mountain Resort

Apex Mountain is a 50 minute drive from Okanagan Falls to Hedley, BC, and west of Penticton.

It averages 600 cm (or 20 feet) of snow a year, with groomed and back country trails available. There’s also a skating rink, and nearby Nickel Plate Nordic Centre has snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

It’s smaller than other resorts in the Okanagan, like Big White or Sun Peaks, but the cozy atmosphere is part of the charm here.

Baldy Mountain Resort

In the complete opposite direction of Apex, approximately 55 minutes southwest of Okanagan Falls, lies the Baldy Mountain Ski Resort.

Baldy Mountain is the 3rd highest elevation ski resort in British Columbia and is one of the most affordable skiing and snowboarding resorts in BC, Canada. Activities at Baldy Mountain include skiing and snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. There’s even an 18 hole winter disc golf course complete with disc rentals for something a little different.

Okanagan Falls Accommodation

Because it’s a smaller town, there are only a few options for accommodation in OK Falls.

There are only a few options in the town proper of Okanagan Falls itself: La Villa Motel, Okanagan Paradise Resorts, Twilight Motel, and Holiday Beach Resorts.

Falls Restaurant. Falls Restaurant has Chinese food for dinner and a Western breakfast. It’s well rated, and a local favorite for the good sized portions.

Bullies Pizza. Bullies Pizza offers up pizza with homemade sauce and fresh toppings, as well as pasta.

KJ Coffee Bar. KJ is a locally owned café with a French Canadian twist. The coffee is fresh, the bread is homemade, and locals and tourist alike rave about this place.

About San Diego

The San Diego Zoo

Situated north of downtown San Diego in Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo is one of the largest and most famous zoos in the United States and is known the world over for it’s inhabitants. It’s a non-profit wildlife sanctuary that houses more than 3,500 animals, which represent more than 650 species and subspecies. If your kids are plant lovers, there’s also a botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants.

This enormous zoo and safari park is home to rare, endangered, and vulnerable animals. Some of the most famous animals residing in the zoo currently are the giant pandas, which, thanks in part to the San Diego Zoo team, is now listed as vulnerable (rather than endangered).

Other kid-pleasing animals in the zoo include kangaroos, koalas, rhinos, leopards, polar bears, sloths, and bonobos. You can even sign up for a behind-the-scenes tour to get a closer view of the day to day responsibilities of the caretakers as well as have up close animal experiences.

The Zoo also has fun activities for it’s visitors, like the Kangaroo Express Bus and the Skyfari Aerial Tram, along with plenty of free-roaming animals that make the experience all the more real.

USS Midway Museum

Permanently docked at Navy Pier, the retired aircraft carrier USS Midway is open to visitors. During it’s heyday, It was one of the largest ships in the US Military.

Along with the USS Midway, the museum also has 30 restored Navy aircraft to see, plus incredible views of San Diego Bay. Kids will keep plenty busy with over 60 exhibits, including hangar, flight deck, and below deck exhibits. If you have time, there’s an incredibly popular audio tour that brings the history of the ship to light (bring your own headphones, if you can).

Balboa Park

San Balboa Park is much more than a green space. It’s home to 17 museums, theaters, as well as the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Balboa Park is an open space urban cultural park, with enough to keep the kids (and adults) busy for days. There are dance classes, gardens, performing arts, museums, shopping, tours, and plenty to eat and drink.

Looking more closely, there are a dizzying number of attractions here, including the Balboa Park Carousel and miniature train, the Cabrillo Bridge, California Tower, El Cid stature, Escape The Nat escape room, the impressively large Moreton Bay fig tree, the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages, the Photographic Arts Building, the San Diego Mineral and Gem Society, Sefton Plaza, the Spanish Village Art Center, and of course the San Diego Zoo.

The Casa del Prado, often just called del Prado, is made of several reconstructed buildings first built for the Panama–California Exposition in San Diego’s Balboa Park. It’s a working site, and often home to weddings, events and activities.

The Casa del Balboa is a single building in Balboa Park. It was originally called the Commerce and Industries Building, and later called the Canadian Building, the Palace of Better Housing, and the Electric Building. Today, Casa del Balboa houses the Balboa Art Conservation Center, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, the Museum of Photographic Arts, and the San Diego History Center.

Gaslamp Quarter

Built-in the late 19th century and early 20th century, the Gaslamp Quarter takes up 16 and a half blocks in San Diego’s downtown. It’s a recognized historic district, with plenty of character and charm. It’s also known for being one of the most visited places in the city.

The Gaslamp Quarter is probably best known for city nightlife, and it’s the place to go to catch the latest theatre, comedy or jazz performance, see the trendiest clothes and people or eat the best cuisine. That said, there’s plenty for kids to do here.

The Gaslamp Quarter is easily walkable, but the kids may enjoy taking a bike taxi. It’s likely the most kid friendly during the day.

The Beaches of San Diego

San Diego is easily the city of the beaches, so visiting the beach is an absolute must when you visit. Some of our favorite San Diego beaches for kids are Coronado Beach, Del Mar City Beach, Moonlight Beach, Mission Bay, Cardiff State Beach, South Ponto Beach, La Jolla Shores, and Silver Strand State Beach.

Mission Beach is a great choice for families that want to relax, with great spots to sunbathe, and a buzzing beachfront Boardwalk, with a sea view café. It’s also a great spot for adventurous families that want to surf. Ocean Beach is a chic and relaxed vibe, while dog lovers will adore – you guessed it – Dog Beach.

Coronado Beach is great for beach volleyball, but it’s also home to a unique experience – ice skating! You can skate at Hotel del Coronado, with stunning view of the beach.

Dubai Marina Walk

Dubai Marina is a man-made canal city, and the Marina Walk is a seven km long pedestrian walkway that runs along it. It’s the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll, with views of the towering skyscrapers on one side and million dollar yachts bobbing on the water on the other. The atmosphere here is electric, especially in the evening with street performers, markets, and food stalls coming alive.

It’s a wonderful walk in the day, or at night, when you’ll marvel at the lights from the skyscrapers.

Camel Racing at Al Marmoom Racetrack

Experience the traditional sport of the UAE – camel racing!

The Al Marmoom Racetrack hosts regular races during the cooler months (usually from 6 to 9 pm), and attending these races is free. It’s a unique experience, watching these lumbering creatures race across the track with small robotic jockeys on their backs and owners following behind on 4×4’s egging their camels on.

Kite Beach

Located near Jumeirah’s main street, Kite Beach is not just for kite surfers, although watching them ride the waves against the backdrop of the Burj Al Arab is a treat in itself.

This stretch of white sandy beach is perfect for a day of sunbathing, beach volleyball, or enjoying a leisurely walk on the jogging tracks. The beach also has a Skate Park, outdoor trampolines, and adventure gyms.

While some activities are chargeable, you can always find a cozy spot on the sand to lay back and enjoy the rhythmic sound of the waves for free. Make sure to check out some of the amazing villas along the way to the beach as well.

Hatta

A bit on the outskirts of Dubai, Hatta is a mountainous enclave that offers beautiful landscapes and a peek into the rural life of the UAE.

While some activities here might be paid, just driving through the winding mountain roads, taking in the views, and visiting the Hatta Dam is absolutely free.

Jumeirah Mosque

Often referred to as the most beautiful mosque in Dubai, the Jumeirah Mosque stands as a stellar example of Islamic architecture. Built entirely from white stone in the medieval Fatimid tradition, its intricate artistry and twin minarets make it a photographer’s delight, especially in the evening when it’s bathed in soft lights.

What’s unique about this mosque is that it’s one of the few in Dubai open to non-Muslims, making it a significant cultural experience for visitors. While there is a fee for the guided tour, which includes a detailed insight into Emirati culture and religion, simply admiring the mosque from the outside and its surroundings is free.

Whether you opt for the tour or just a visit, the Jumeirah Mosque offers a serene and enlightening experience.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary

Situated at the mouth of the Dubai Creek, this wetland reserve is a haven for birdwatchers.

It’s home to a large number of flamingos, which can be seen during the winter months. Besides flamingos, the sanctuary is also home to over 450 species of wildlife. There are three bird hides located in the sanctuary, from where you can view these creatures without disturbing them.

Definitely a serene escape from the city hustle!

The Ripe Market

One of Dubai’s best open-air markets, the Ripe Market is a favorite among both tourists and locals.

Set up in various locations depending on the season (Zabeel Park in the cooler months and indoors at Times Square Center during summer), this market showcases local artisans, organic groceries, handcrafted jewelry, and gourmet food trucks.

It’s a fantastic place to experience the city’s community vibe, pick up unique souvenirs, or simply enjoy one of the best things to do in Dubai with kids or friends. When it comes to swimming with whale sharks, be respectful and safe. It’s important to note that Holbox is only safe for swimming with whale sharks when they are actively feeding. If you see the whale sharks resting or moving too quickly, it’s best to stay away and not enter the water. During this time, you can still observe the whale sharks from the boat, but be sure to keep your distance and respect their space. Make sure to not get too close or touch the whales, as this can startle them and disrupt their natural behavior.

Isla de la Pasión is a small uninhabited island located a few kilometers from Holbox Island. It is known for its stunning white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and abundant wildlife. Getting to Isla de la Pasión is easy, as there are several tour companies on Holbox that will take you there. You can also rent a boat at the harbor and make your own way to the island.

Once on Isla de la Pasión, visitors will find an idyllic beach paradise, with crystal clear waters and white sand beaches that seem to stretch forever. There are many places to swim, snorkel and simply relax and take in the beauty of the island. Every year, during the Spring festival season, visitors come from all over the world to see the beautiful cherry blossoms. Within days of the flowers opening, Instagram overflows with stunning pictures and videos of the many cherry trees in Japan.

Best time to see cherry blossoms in Japan

Because cherry blooms are dependent on the weather, the exact time the cherry blossoms emerge varies from year to year. Every Spring, travelers wait for the sakura (cherry) trees to burst into bloom, and descend on the country to see this unforgettable sight.

Most festivals take place between March and May, and they’re a wonderful place to take in more than just cherry blossoms. Most festivals feature live music, food, craft stalls and tea ceremonies beneath the blossoms.

To get a rough estimate of when the cherry blossoms start, take a look at the last five year’s festival dates, and find an average of that to estimate the time of the cherry trees blossoms.

Best Places to See Cherry Blossoms in Japan

While you can see pretty blossoms at many parks and even along boulevards, several cities and small towns are especially well known for their cherry blossoms. For the most part, these cities have festivals that coincide when the cherry trees come into bloom.

Yoshino, Kansai

Yoshino is known as the Cherry Blossom Capital of Japan. Small town Yoshino gets quite busy during cherry blossom season. Because it draws thousands of visitors, and there are a limited number of places to stay, accommodation is generally booked out well in advance.

Luckily, it’s possible to visit the Yoshino blossoms on a day trip from Nara or even Osaka.

The best time to visit Yoshino is usually from mid-April until early May each year. Check a cherry blossom forecast for more exact dates.

Hirosaki Castle, Tohoku

If you want to avoid the crowds, Hirosaki is a great choice. While it’s hugely popular, the park also covers a large area of over 50 hectares, which keeps it from feeling crowded.

The castle here, Hirosaki Castle, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Japan however all that’s left of the castle these days is the 200-year-old keep.

The park itself is crisscrossed with moats from the historic castle with cherry trees flanking the moats, alongside lovely, arching bridges. Walkways are often lined with a variety of flowers, including tulips and irises making the walk even more memorable.

There are over 2,500 cherry trees in Hirosaki, making for a fully immersive cherry blossom experience.

Fuji Five Lakes, Chubu

The Arakurayama Sengen-kōen park is in Fuji-Yoshida, a city at the base of Mt Fuji, with almost 700 sakura trees.

As you can imagine the photos in Fuji Five Lakes are gorgeous, with Mt Fuji in the background, and the Chureitō Pagoda in the front of the frame. It’s likely a photo that you’ve seen often and incorporates 3 things that Japan is known for in one picture.

The best time to see cherry blossoms in Fuji Five Lakes is generally from late March to early May.

Kyoto

Kyoto is a city with a long history that dates back to the 700s. Once the Imperial city of Japan, the architecture and general vibe of this culture-rich city reflect its origins.

Kyoto has many wonderful places to see cherry blossoms, making it hard to pick just one.

Maruyama-kōen (Maruyama Park) may just be the best place to see cherry blossoms in Kyoto.

You will find the wonderful Gion Shidare-zakura (in English, the “Weeping Cherry of Gion) in the middle of the park. The tree is over 10 meters tall (32 feet), and lit up at night. The nearby Shirakawa canal is lined with cherry trees and lit up at night as well.

While the Weeping Cherry of Gion is stunning, there are almost 700 other cherry trees in full bloom in the park and it makes a great place to see in person.

Tokyo

Tokyo is home to thousands of cherry trees that draw in thousands of tourists. Blooms usually last a couple of weeks.

Tokyo’s Yoyogi-kōen (Yoyogi Park in English) is a vibrant, fun place to take in the cherry blossoms. It’s a huge, sprawling area in the heart of downtown Tokyo. During cherry blossom season, it’s packed with people picnicking under the blossoms.

If photos and video are your priority, visit the stunningly picturesque Shinjuku-gyoen.

Nakameguro is Tokyo’s best neighborhood for seeing cherry blossoms, with numerous streets lined with cherry trees.

Osaka

Osaka is one of Japan’s most beautiful cities, and that’s saying a lot in a country known for its charm.

It’s an excellent choice to visit if you can’t visit Japan until later in the cherry blossom season, as cherry trees bloom later here than in other parts of Japan.

For the most part, the best time to view cherry blossoms in Osaka is the third week of March. The blossoms hit full bloom (known as mankai in Japanese) around April 1st.

Osaka Castle and its surrounding garden is a wonderful place to see cherry blossoms. The castle itself is a striking piece of medieval Japanese architecture that photographs well against the light pink or white cherry blossoms. the area is known for.

Himeji Castle, Kansai

Himeji Castle is only four hours west of Tokyo by train, making it easy to access for most visitors.

The castle only reopened to visitors in 2015, but it has quickly become popular with tourists and locals alike.

There are free areas at Senhimebotanen Garden (Sannomaru grounds) and paid areas at Nishnomaru grounds.

Matsumae Park, Hokkaido

Hokkaido is Japan’s most northern island, and home to Japan’s northernmost castle in Matsumae Park. There are over 10,000 trees here, with 250 varieties of blossoms. Because of the many varieties, which bloom at different times, Matsumae Park has a long viewing season until late April.

The castle is illuminated at night, making for a magical sight.

Matsumae Park is just a short walk from the city center, making it easy to access.

Cancun or Tulum? Which is the Best Vacation Destination for You?

Beyond the beaches, Cancun serves as a hub for exploring historical and natural wonders. The Mayan ruins at El Rey offer a glimpse into the ancient civilization right in the heart of the Hotel Zone. For a day trip, the majestic Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, is within reach, offering insights into the Mayan culture and architecture.

Nature lovers will be drawn to the natural beauty of the cenotes, such as Cenote Ik Kil, with its crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling. We also love heading over to Isla Mujeres for the day and if you had a group, taking a catamaran cruise over to it would be a fun way to get to and from the island.

Things to do in Tulum

The Tulum Ruins are the town’s most iconic attraction, perched atop a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. These ruins offer breathtaking views and a chance to walk through the remnants of a once-thriving Mayan port city.

Beach lovers will find their slice of paradise at Playa Paraíso, known for its powdery white sand and clear, calm waters, providing a more relaxed atmosphere compared to Cancun. For a unique experience, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve offers a chance to explore untouched landscapes, including beaches, coral reefs, and jungles teeming with wildlife.

Tulum is also famous for its cenotes, natural sinkholes filled with fresh water. Cenote Dos Ojos, for example, is a popular spot for snorkeling and diving, with its clear, turquoise waters and intricate cave systems. We enjoyed our first time at Cenote Dos Ojos a few years ago. These natural pools offer a cool respite from the heat and a small peek into the geological wonders of the Yucatan Peninsula. Locally, there’s also Cenote Sac Actun and Gran Cenote that are very close to Tulum proper.

The town itself is a haven for foodies and those seeking wellness experiences. Tulum’s culinary scene is diverse, focusing on fresh, local ingredients and innovative dishes. Many restaurants offer outdoor seating, allowing diners to enjoy their meals in the open air. Wellness retreats and yoga studios are abundant, promoting relaxation and mindfulness amidst the natural beauty of Tulum.

Making the Decision: Cancun or Tulum?

The choice between Cancun and Tulum ultimately boils down to the type of vacation you want.

Cancun is ideal for those who:

Your decision may also depend on the kind of memories you wish to create. All this isn’t to say that you can’t find relaxation and tranquility in Cancun or a few wild parties in Tulum. Each location has its share of both, but Cancun’s tourist roots stretch farther back so in general, the hotels, restaurants and attractions cater to a larger, more boisterous crowd. What Tulum might turn into in 20+ years is still up for debate however now the building and style trend is definitely towards the more ecological side.

Where to Stay in Cancun

We’ve done plenty of all-inclusives when staying in Cancun though we have stayed in a few condos and even a normal hotel when we had an early flight the next day. HZ refers to the Hotel Zone strip which runs north to south outside of the main city in Cancun.

Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun – A personal favorite from when we stayed here last! Great spa and calm oceanfront at the northern end of the Hotel Zone.

Paradisus Cancun – Center of HZ with great views, tons of restaurants/nightlife and nice beachfront

The Westin Resort & Spa Cancun – Quieter location on south side of HZ giving you a nice tropical feel

Sun Palace – Couples only boutique retreat on the south of HZ

Ambiance Suites Cancun – Clean in town hotel great for a cheap overnight stay when needed

Getting There

Getting to Cancun or Tulum is relatively straightforward.

Cancun

Cancun has been on the tourist radar for decades now and has a popular and busy international airport only 20 minutes away from the Hotel Zone. Flights to Cancun tend to be cheap and plentiful from most North America, South American and European countries. Local buses are easy to jump on and off and taxis are everywhere plus ride sharing sites like Uber also exist.

Tulum

Tulum opened their very own international airport recently (Tulum Airport (TQO) | Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport). However there are only a fraction of flights currently landing compared to Cancun, so if choosing Tulum, realize that you might be forced to land in Cancun and have to drive or take a bus or shuttle service (approximately 2 hrs from Cancun airport).

There’s a train route under construction from Cancun to Tulum, called the Tren Maya, which is sometimes referred to as the Mayan Train or Maya Train. The current projection is that the Cancun to Tulum route will be open in June 2024, but there’s a solid possibility of delays, so make sure it’s running if you plan to use it to get down to Tulum for your stay.

Taxis are easy enough to find though collectivos (small van-like local buses) are more the norm there for farther jaunts. Of course, both cities have good long distance ADO buses that can get you anywhere in the peninsula and even down to Belize or central Mexico.

Cancun or Tulum, Both Are Awesome

Whether you choose Cancun or Tulum, both destinations promise an unforgettable escape to the Riviera Maya. We’ve had amazing experiences in both places both with our kids and without and tend to call the Riviera Maya our unofficial second home. We’re excited to see how the new international airport in Tulum and the new Yucatan train changes both the landscape and the possibilities in the region. but time will tell if the train helps or hinders the areas it’s opening up.

In either case, you can’t go wrong with either location as the beaches are beautiful, the food is delicious and the people are welcoming.

Kelowna’s reputation as one of Canada’s most scenic and beautiful places is well deserved. The city lies along the deep, clear 135 km (84 mi) long Okanagan Lake, and is bordered by mountains and forest.

In our seven years of living in Kelowna, we’ve had the pleasure of hiking most of Kelowna’s great trails.

The Best Hikes in Kelowna, BC

We usually hike with our kids, so many of these Kelowna trails are family friendly, and are included in some of the top family things to do in Kelowna. Of course, since Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley is a mountainous area, there are a few trails here that are more difficult, and suitable for experienced hikers only.

Apex Trail on Knox Mountain

We take most of our out of town guests to Knox Mountain for a moderate to easy hike. It’s on the outskirts of downtown, making it easily accessible, and it also offers gorgeous views of downtown Kelowna and Okanagan Lake.

The downside here is that Apex Trail is one of Kelowna’s most popular hikes, meaning the trails can be fairly busy during peak times, like summer weekends.

If you’re feeling ambitious, you can start Apex Trail at the bottom of Knox Mountain, and hike all the way up to the top. If you’re looking for an easier hike, you can drive on Knox Mountain Drive to the parking lot about half way up, and walk the rest. It’s also possible to drive all the way to the top of Knox for a peek at the view.

Knox Mountain Drive is seasonally closed to traffic during the coldest months of the winter and can be closed in the summer if the danger of forest fires is too high in the region.

2022 Update: To assist with social distancing measures during the pandemic, Knox Mountain drive is currently closed to vehicle traffic.

There are over a dozen other trails on Knox Mountain, if you’d like to explore further. One of our family favorites is the Paul’s Tomb trail, which we talk about below.

If you’re a fan of the water, you can also access Okanagan Lake’s Kelowna Paddle Trail at the base of Knox Mountain.

The Kelowna Paddle Trail is a 27-kilometre water only trail on Okanagan Lake from McKinley Beach to Bertram Creek Regional Park. It passes along bird sanctuaries, 20 beaches and parks, three waterfront resorts, and two bird sanctuaries. It’s a great place to take out that paddleboard or kayak you’ve found.

Dogs are allowed on Apex Trail if they’re on leash, on trail, and licensed. There’s an off leash dog beach nearby, at 589 Poplar Point Dr, near the Apex Trail Parking lot.

Length: 2.0 km one way (4 km return).

Difficulty: Moderate. Potentially slippery sections with an incline.

Paul’s Tomb

Paul’s Tomb, on Knox Mountain is probably the hike we’ve walked the most since we moved to Kelowna. It’s one of our favorite easy hiking trails Kelowna.

It’s a lovely hike that follows along the shore of Okanagan Lake, with stunning views of the lake at the top. The trail ends at a small, pebble-covered swimming beach, where you’ll find local families like ours taking a swim in the lake and enjoying picnic lunches.

The hike does lead to the tomb of Rembler Paul, one of Kelowna’s earlier pioneers. There’s not much to see at the tomb itself, as the door has long been sealed with rock and gravel.

To access Paul’s Tomb, it’s easiest to drive up Knox Mountain Drive to the midlevel parking lot. When Knox Mountain Drive is closed, you can park at the parking lot at the base of Knox Mountain, or drive up to the end of Poplar Point Drive, where there’s extremely limited parking on the road in a residential area.

Dogs are allowed on leash, on trail and if they’re licensed. There’s an off leash dog beach nearby, at 589 Poplar Point Dr, near the Apex Trail Parking lot.

Length: 2.5 km (1.5 miles)

Difficulty: Easy, with some moderate sections.

Myra Canyon Trestles

Myra Canyon is a popular, well maintained and scenic portion of the former Kettle Valley Railway. It’s a stunningly scenic hike, with 18 giant trestle bridges and two tunnels, and features some amazing views over the lake.

Stretching just over 12 kilometers one way, you can walk the popular portions of the trestles, however, it’s more common to bike the whole way.

If you chose to bike rather than hike, you can rent a bicycle in Myra Canyon’s parking lot all summer if you need one. You can also join a tour that will explain the over 100 year long history of this historic railway stretch and the rebuilding of the trestles after the major fires in the area in 2003.

The trail head is about a 35 minute drive from Downtown Kelowna, with the last 5 or 10 minutes of the drive on a bumpy gravel road, with switchbacks. If conditions are snowy, icy or slick, you may need a 4×4.

You can access the trail via the Myra Station parking lot or the June Springs parking lot. We always choose to start at the Myra Station lot, because there are six trestles in the first few kilometers, making for a simple and interesting hike for the family.

Difficulty: Easy, but multiple steep drop offs.

Kelowna Waterfront Trail

This trail is more of a city walk than our other Kelowna hikes, but it’s well worth the time if you’d like to see Kelowna’s downtown and lakefront. The hike starts at the parking lot at City Park (it’s now a paid lot), winds its way along the downtown lakefront, and ends at Rotary Marsh.

Along the way, you’ll pass Hot Sands beach, which is the summer beach to see and be seen. For some of the best ice cream in Kelowna, stop at Moo Lix ice cream shop on Bernard St., and enjoy your ice cream along a lovely boardwalk by the manicured Waterfront Park. Waterfront Park is home to plenty of activities and festivals, including the always fun Great Okanagan Beer Festival.

Most people stop at Tugboat beach, by the Delta Grand Hotel, but if you follow the lakefront a little further, there’s an interesting little walk through Rotary Marsh walk.

Distance: 2.1 km (1.3 miles) one way

Difficulty: Easy

Mill Creek

Mill Creek is an easy 10 minute drive from downtown Kelowna, and just a few minutes drive from the Kelowna airport.

Because Mill Creek was hit by flooding a couple of years ago, a large portion of the initial section of this hike was reconstructed, with new footbridges, and a wider path.

The initial section of the hike (Waterfall Trail) is a little less than 1 km (0.6 miles) long. It’s wide and relatively flat, and a good choice for younger kids.

After the short walk at the initial section, you’ll end up at a small waterfall. It’s one of the closest waterfalls in Kelowna.

Just before you reach the waterfall, there’s an informal trail that’s much narrower and steeper that winds up along a ridge overlooking the waterfall. It diverges just North of the main trail, and loops back into the main trail after less than 1 km.

This is a pretty, easy hike along a smooth, wide path, mostly under cover. It’s our hike of choice on hot summer days when we want to walk under the trees.

Dogs are allowed on leash. There’s a small parking lot, and hours differ, depending on the season. It’s open 6:00 am to 11:00 pm in peak summer hours.

Difficulty: Easy (main Waterfall trail). Moderate (informal trail).

Mission Creek Greenway

This long, winding pathway is one of Kelowna’s less talked about gems. We’re fortunate to live nearby, so we’ve walked almost every kilometer of the trail.

The Greenway follows along Mission Creek, which may technically be a creek, but what most people would consider as a smaller, fast flowing river. During spring, if runoff is high, Mission Creek can be extremely fast moving and potentially very dangerous.

Portions of the greenway are still under construction, but when completed, it will span 26 kilometers (16 miles) from the shore of Okanagan Lake to Mission Creek Falls.

Because it’s such a long trail system, most people only hike sections of the trail, so we’ve broken the Greenway down into the two most common hikes: Mission Creek Regional Park, and the downtown section from Lakeshore Drive to KLO road

Mission Creek Regional Park

Mission Creek Regional Park is likely the most familiar spot along the Mission Creek Greenway. It’s home to a honeycomb of great family hiking trails, a playground, washrooms, picnic facilities, and the EECO Center (Environmental Education Centre for the Okanagan). The EECO runs environmental education programs year round – we especially love the education they provide on spawning salmon in Mission Creek.

Mission Creek Greenway proper is a wide, flat pathway that runs parallel to Mission Creek, connecting Mission Creek Regional Park to the downtown area and Scenic Canyon Regional Park to the East. Many smaller, well marked hiking trails fan out from the Greenway that take you through Kelowna’s ever-present Ponderosa Pines, by a Children’s Fishing Pond, and past Turtle Ponds. You can also see Kokanee Salmon spawning in early fall.

This is one of our favorite winter hikes in Kelowna. The main Mission Creek Greenway trail is quite wide and flat, so it’s often less icy that other hikes with steep inclines.

Mission Creek Greenway – downtown section from Lakeshore to KLO Road

You can access this section of the path from the Lakeshore Road and Truswell Road parking area or across the river from the Creekside Pub & Grill.

To the West in this section, Mission Creek flows into the 135 km long Okanagan Lake. Sandbars often form as the creek enters the lake in the spring, attracting birds.

If you walk to the East along the trail, you’ll find Michael Brook Marsh, for more bird watching. After a few kilometers, you’ll pass Father Pandosy Historic Site and eventually meet up with Mission Creek Regional Park after KLO Road.

Difficulty: Easy

Scenic Canyon Regional Park

Entering the Scenic Canyon Regional Park from the parking lot off 2014 Hollywood Rd S (known as The Greenery on Google Maps), the trail first dips down into a marshy area, full of ducks, turtles, and greenery, and past a series of small boardwalks. There are also a couple of bridges that cross over Mission Creek.

The Mission Creek Greenway officially runs through Scenic Canyon Regional Park to its terminal point at Mission Creek Falls.

If you hit Saskatoon berry season just right (usually early summer around the end of June), this section of the trail has some of the ripest, juiciest Saskatoon berries we’ve ever found.

Further along, there are some interesting geological features along the way, including views of Layer Cake Mountain, once you’re past the KLO Creek bridge. There’s even a more challenging Rock Ovens Trail.

Currently, sections of the trail above the KLO creek bridge (on the East side) are closed due to washouts and bank instability.

Length: Section off of Hollywood Rd South (about 2 km, loop). Section off Field Road (about 5 km, total)

Difficulty: The first few kilometers off the parking lot at 2014 Hollywood Rd S are easy. Difficult sections with steep and narrow climbs are accessed from the parking lot at 3965 Field Rd.

Stephens Coyote Ridge Regional Park – Coyote Ridge East Trailhead to Light Blue Lake

This is a pretty hike with nice views of Okanagan Lake on one side and Glenmore Valley on the other side. I personally really love the views here, but they’re subjectively less stunning than others you can find on Kelowna hiking trails. You may also have some highway or airplane noise depending on the time of day.

If you’re looking for over-the-top stunning scenery, do the hike at Mount Boucherie, Myra Canyon, or Knox Mountain.

There are plenty of trails here, leading among wetlands and largely untouched habitat. There’s a good chance of seeing wildlife like coyotes and marmots.

There’s not much signage here, and the lake is small and not recommended for swimming.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate with some steep sections. Not well marked.

Boucherie Rush Trail on Mount Boucherie

The Mount Boucherie hike rewards you with gorgeous views of Okanagan Lake and wineries below. You’ll navigate a series of switchbacks and a steep incline, but the view at the end is gorgeous.

There are three trails at the Mount Boucherie parking lot, but it’s the Boucherie Rush trail that will lake you to the top of Mount Boucherie at 758 meters elevation.

The trail itself is well maintained, with wooden railings and gravel surface. Since Mount Boucherie is an extinct volcano, you may see ancient solidified lava rock on your route.

Tip! The north east face of the mountain is much more difficult, and we recommend it only for very experienced hikers. We consistently hear reports on the local news of hikers stranded on the north face that require search and rescue assistance.

Difficulty: Moderate, with steep sections and incline

Black Mountain Viewpoint

We don’t hear a lot of people mention the Black Mountain Viewpoint trail, but it’s one of my favorite short hikes in Kelowna.

It’s a short trail (1.6 km round trip, or 1.0 mile). Start at the base of Black Mountain, and it’s a fairly steep hike along some switchbacks straight up to the viewpoint. It’s not a long hike, but it definitely gets the blood pumping.

You can be done and dusted on this hike in about half an hour, if you move quickly. With kids, we’re slower, so it takes us about 50 minutes.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Distance: 1.6 km (1.0 mile) round trip

Crawford Falls hike

Crawford Falls is a great option if you’re looking for waterfalls near Kelowna. It’s likely the best known of the waterfall hikes in Kelowna. The hike has two options that lead to scenic waterfalls in the forest. It’s a short, steep hike to the falls on Bellevue Creek.

From the trailhead, it takes about 20 minutes to the first of the two falls. The first set of falls are about 20 feet high, and a difficult, steep hike. The second set of falls are another 10 minutes down the trail, and much taller, at about 40 feet high.

You’ll need to scramble over a few boulders, but the hike is less steep was revamped by the City of Kelowna in the mid-2010’s, and no longer has extremely steep sections with ropes.

What kind of weather can I expect on my hike in Kelowna?

Depending on the season, temperatures in Kelowna can range from summer daytime highs of plus 40 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) to winter overnight lows of -20 Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit). Kelowna is generally considered one of the warmest cities in Canada and most days outside of the coolest days of the year around January and February and the hottest days (around July and August) hiking in Kelowna is a joy.
