Hey Amanda, great post you have there. 12 times is crazy however I guess if you’re a local then it makes sense. I don’t want to say I’m a little jealous but the fact remains, I am. 😉

Glad you’ve driven the Oodnadatta Track. Over the past 5 years, we’ve travelled this track 12 times now. As we’re outback locals, we use it as an alternative to driving the Stuart Highway when we’re visiting family down south (we live and have amazing, adventurous jobs in Alice Springs).

You mention our massive local’s guide to the Oodnadatta Track in your post (many thanks), but I’d like to advise you that the link you’re using is broken.

It would be awesome if you could update it.

Hi Shalu,

It was incredibly dry, especially considering it had poured rain only a few hours before. The puddles just evaporated as soon as that Outback sun hit them.

D. J., Yes, the expensive gas did hurt the pocketbook at bit. Especially since it turns out that we were having problems with our carburetor at the time, and we were burning through gas at about twice our normal rate.

Garry, Yes, we met some really interesting characters in the Outback – that may be an entirely different blog post, though 🙂

Fly Girl, we’re all about the road trip. We always seem to find the most interesting things off the main highways, and in the most unexpected places.

Terry, we’d love to go back. We drove the Oodnadatta before we had little ones. I think they’d love the trip.

Yes, it’s a strange and desolate place. We’re from Canada, so we’re used to a lot of open space, but it’s especially strange in the Outback where it seems as if there’s absolutely no wildlife around.

Hi Bill, Thanks for the pics – yes, it does seem like the sculptures we found were by Robin Cooke, and the area’s called the Mutonia Sculpture Park.
