Hey Charles!
This is a wonderful post! My nephew is residing in Australia and has been calling me to visit him sometime. I’ve been dismissing his invitation but think now’s the time to leave home. This limestone rock standing majestically is a melancholy beauty to look at. The kangaroos sure made your way exciting!! ;) be safe and travel well!

I never knew how far Uluru was from Alice Springs. Nonetheless, I will probably do a daytrip out there from AS ... too expensive to stay on site at Uluru!

Just look at the colour on that rock!!! I don't see anything strange at all in droves of people going to see something that uncommon, here in Cape Town we get plenty coming to see Table Mountain which rises in a similar fashion and seems very much out of place where it rests, though not nearly so obvious as this... it almost looks as though it was set there. This is a must see for me.

Been there last year.
One thing I remember about my walk around Uluru rock was the thousand flies on my face and heat.
Magical place that everyone should visit when on a Roadtrip through the outback!

In reply to Rob @ Migration Angels.

Rob, the single exposed "rock" is definitely an oddity. Sometimes I wonder if the amount of people flocking to see it is even stranger. Australia in general has a strange fascination with large objects. While we were there we saw dozens of "big things".

Just between you and me though, I thought Devils Marbles was cooler. ;)

I haven't been yet, but I would love to go and see it. It's pretty peculiar having a massive rock poking out of the ground don't you think?
