I LOVE that book. I think Your Money or Your Life Should be required reading in schools. I’m definitely going to make my kiddos read it when they get older.

Really, being in control of our money (and that book was definitely a part of that) is what gives us the ability to do what we do. We couldn’t travel so much if we were in debt, or if we spent more than we earn…

You are right that it is always tough to save for a trip. We are currently saving for our next big one to the USA & Canada, but as a family of 5 we need some serious money to make it happen. So we are saving every pay, and probably won’t get there until ~2015.

That’s OK, as our youngest child is only 4 years old at the moment, so if we wait he should be able to remember the trip, plus he should be tall enough to go on most rides at Disneyland!

A key point is to not borrow money to travel – having to pay it off over the following couple of years definitely takes the shine off the fun…

I love “find your idiot”! There are so many to choose from. I’ve lived in Mexico for six years and my Spanish still sucks.

Regarding saving up the cash, I recommend the book Your Money Or Your Life. Really helped me learn to prioritize my spending and feel like I’m in control. I owe it some of the credit for my semi-retired expat life.
