This is some really good information about condo rentals. I liked what you said about how if you are going to be staying on your trip for more than a month makes sure you get a condo that does monthly rates. That does seem like a good way to save some money on a good place to stay.

Great post. I’ve been travelling around the world for the last three years. And honestly the only thing I would add to your post is that the prices you quote are actually rather high! In many countries around the world $400 per week will get you a really top apartment! In places like Portugal, Ukraine, Serbia, Thailand you can have a truly wonderful apartment for $30 per day or less – that’s $200 per week. Of course if you travel as a family you need a larger place, but for a single traveller the prices are actually way lower. I absolutely agree with your overall point that when you have flexibility, you can have great savings.

It always depends where we are and what we’re up to. In some remote locations you need your own transportation but more often than not we rely on local transport and our feet.

Being on a more relaxed schedule gives us the flexibility to travel at a slower pace and get to know our surroundings. When in a big city we usually try to stay near the center so everything is easy to get to and there’s always local transport if we want to go out farther.

In Playa we walked everywhere, took buses or a taxi if we wanted to go to the mall or had a lot groceries to transport and we rented a car the odd day or two to explore a little farther south or north. For the most part, it’s a cheap place to get around.

Interesting post. Curious though about getting around. For example, in Playa, did you get a month-long car rental or rely on local transport?

This is a great resource. As you mention, the expensive part of travelling in moving about – staying in one place for longer gives a real chance to explore and learn, whilst saving money. My life in Asia is so much better value than back in the UK.
