There’s a lot of movement into language study lately. People believe they can succeed using listening to music. Thus there’s interest in ways to immerse passively. These are good times to be getting involved in languages.

Hi Jenna,

I’m sure the list could go on and on but this seems to be a variety for each region.

Brazil is the largest market in South America by pure size alone and then the new economy has spurred a middle class demanding English lessons. Expensive is relative, Rio is relatively expensive (in Brazil) but not compared to the Western European or S. E. Asia countries.

Japan has always been large but China, S. Korea and Singapore have aggressively grown in the past 10 years.

Great post! Teaching abroad is a great option and these countries would be fun ones to live in for a little while.

Lots of great ideas for teaching abroad. What about Europe and Japan? I taught EFL in Europe but it was many years ago, and I’m sure the market there has changed. I was a little surprised to see Brazil here only because it’s so expensive to live there, but there is a big demand for English teachers, especially for business and professionals there.
